*Who/What*

Craftin' Outlaws is an annual 'alternative' craft fair held in Columbus, Ohio. The first event, held in 2005 featured 50 fabulous and original DIY ers selling their hip handmade wares to a steady stream of customers who were looking to purchase that one-of-a-kind gift for themselves or a loved one. These aren't your granny's crafts, sure people might be using the same methods and techniques that have been used for years but they are also putting an urban or ironic twist to it. Check out last years vendors to get an idea.

It is being organized by Liz Rosino, of Lucky Kat, who has sold at her share of these 'alternative craft fairs' across the country and wanted to bring one to central Ohio.

*Why*

Columbus has sooo many large shopping malls and hosts the headquarters to some major mall based corporations. This has led to a lack of outlets to showcase and expose the public here to an alternative to mass produced products and to demonstrate the importance of supporting smaller indie artists, urban crafters, and designers. But the movement here in Columbus is surely growing! Just within the past couple years others have organized smaller indie fairs around town as well as the opening of a few cool new DIY/handmade consignment stores. 2008 Craftin' Outlaws, which is no doubt the largest fair of its kind in Ohio, is THE place to be whether a vendor or shopper!

This year we are also making a donation to Rwanda Knits. The charity "provides hand-operated, American-made knitting machines, technical and business training to Rwandan and refugee women living in Rwanda to enable them to increase their incomes through economically sustainable knitting cooperatives, producing garments for both the domestic and export markets." *Vendors*

Apply

To apply to be a vendor, please download and mail in the application, submit photos or a website, and pay the application fee by the deadline. By July 7 you will be notified by email if you have been accepted.

Everyone from the hobbyist to those with their own small businesses will be welcomed to apply. Decisions will be based on space available and the type and quality of crafts, because a good variety will benefit the sellers and buyers both! No mass-produced items you bought wholesale to resell, vintage clothing (unless you have altered/embellished them) or food products will be accepted. 2-D art, such as paintings, prints, and drawings will be considered.

Payment

If you have not been accepted, your payment will be promptly refunded to you. If you have been accepted, but need to cancel, a partial refund is granted up to 30 days before the fair. No refunds will be given after that time. The vendor payment goes towards venue rental, advertising, printing promotional items, postage, web hosting, and other costs related to putting on the event. We will also be making a charitable donation with a portion of these fees as well.

Space / Table rental

With your application fee you will get a space of about 8x5 foot, this will fit an 8' table with enough space behind to store boxes/supplies and to sit or you are welcome to provide your own setup. An 8' table and 2 chairs will be provided for you and are included in the vendor fee. Don't forget to bring along your own tablecloth and displays.

If you want to share a space with a friend, both people must apply and both must indicate with the application who they want to share with, and but only one applicant needs to pay the fee. Please email with any questions. If you want your space to be next to a friend's table, please indicate that after the acceptance emails have gone out.

*Volunteers*

This summer, please help by spreading the word to your friends, family, coworkers and anyone else you know that makes cool stuff that would be interested in applying to be a vendor. Volunteers will also be needed to hang posters and distribute fliers as well as those with any connections with potential sponsors or press. If you have a website, put up a link to this site or mention the event on any appropriate online forums or local calendars. And of course on the day of the event, help will be needed! So send an email if you are interested.
